Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our 2026 cohort of TRC Welsh Athletics Run Leaders funded by Run Wales.
We will again be working with Run Wales to train our second group of school staff members in schools across Wales as Run Leaders with Welsh Athletics. This cohort will start their virtual course in December and give runners the knowledge and confidence to provide a safe and enjoyable running experience for young people aged 12+ and adults of any ability.
The final part of this course will be help in person in Cardiff in the New Year, all successful applicants must be able to attened in order to pass the course.

Our aims for this project are:
- To engage as many staff members, community members and children in the activity of running as possible.
- Create clubs that promotes both physical and mental wellbeing,
- Support people in building activity into their lives in a fun and social way.
- To start a running movement within your school community that is both sustainable and measurable.
- For the newly trained staff members to not only engage staff members in running sessions, but to use running as a way to target specific groups of pupils within school, such a girls or pupils less engaged in PE lessons.
We will inform you as soon as possible if you have been successful. Please note in these early rounds of funding we will be prioritising schools who already have some sort of formal or informal fitness/running group active that TRC can support to streamline and grow. We will then use later funding to take successful models and set them up in brand new schools.
