About the Founder

Daniel Chaplen

Teachers’ Run Club Founder

Hi, I’m Dan – thanks for visiting Teachers’ Run Club!

For over 15 years, I taught PE and led community engagement at a large primary school in Luton, as well as at an independent school in Buckinghamshire. In recent years, I’ve shifted my focus to supporting school staff and the wider community, helping them take on active challenges and use their journeys to motivate and inspire others.

My goal is to create and share as many active opportunities for school staff as possible, using their stories to show children and young people that they, too, can achieve their goals.

Over the past six years, I’ve organised a variety of staff challenges, including fun runs, cross-country bike rides, and town-wide virtual events. These initiatives have raised thousands of pounds for various charities, helped staff realise their potential, and encouraged children and their families to get active alongside their teachers.

During lockdown, as more school staff turned to running for exercise, Teachers’ Run Club was born. It has since evolved into a not-for-profit organisation that works with funders to train school staff members across the country as run leaders through England and Welsh Athletics. This allows them to establish community-based running clubs for staff and parents.

I also run a small company called Schools’ Active Community Coach. Through this, I work directly with schools, charities, and businesses to support their active engagement initiatives. You can find out more about that [here].
